The garden

Hervé loves to work about the garden making it look exactly the way he wants. One of the first things he wanted to do was put in a garden so we could grow our own vegetables. He thought the best place would be close to the kitchen so that we wouldn't need to go very far to pick herbes, fruits or vegetables.
So, he started out taking off all the grass little by little.

Sometimes he would have little helpers that would come and give a hand.

Some help more than others.

Some are just interested in playing in the wheel barrel.

After several weeks of pulling out all the grass, it was finally done. Jean-Louis came yesterday to turn the dirt over with his machine.

Picking up the rocks that the machine made come to the surface.

Now it's all ready for planting.
As the men worked on the garden, Alicia showed Granmaman what she could do on the trampoline.
To finish off the day, Hervé thought he should mow the lawn so that everything looked just perfect.
A couple more pictures of around the house.
Hervé didn't much like the way the front of the house looked like either.

So he changed the look there too.

To the back of the house, all the trees are in flower.

Don't know what this one is, but the bright red is rather nice.

Pfff, quel maniaque...ça me fait penser à quelqu'un... ;-)

Looks like Herve has lots of space to make his gardens. Should look really nice when he's done. The red plant looks like either a Hibiscus or Rose of Sharon to me, but Mom would be the expert.

No sign of flowers out here in Scarborough - except for crocuses and scilla.

Hervé's vegetable garden project is very impressive. If we ever get the boxes unpacked from moving back into our own house, I hope to start terraced gardens at the cottage in May.

Maybe by the time that Brandon arrives, there will be something growing there.

It's not hibiscus or Rose of Sharon. Not the right time of year. The flower doesn't look like azalea either. It has me stumped. Anyone else have an idea?

Obviously that last comment was not your dad.
Hervé has really been busy. Watch out for that Lily of the Valley. It really spreads. I dug up all of mine (I hope) and put it where nothing else will grow.

Hmmm. I thought the flower was bouganvillea. But it must be too early for that.

The garden looks fantastic. I felt inspired after reading it, and planted 4 cherry trees. 4 more years from now, I'm sure I'll be able to make some really good pies!

On closer examination, I think it's azalea. The time of year is right, the leaves look right, the flower looks similar to photos on the internet.

the flower on my azalea looks different, but the leaves and branches are similar, so maybe...

Hervé thinks it might be a Japanese Quince tree. It has prickly things on it. Does azalea have prickly things on them?
